Vancouver Flake Floor Systems

1-Day vs 2-Day Flake System: Which Garage Floor Is Right for Vancouver?

Both are full-broadcast flake floors priced at $6 to $12 per square foot installed. The 1-Day system is a polyaspartic base, flake and polyaspartic topcoat installed in a single day, with a 5-year exterior / 10-year interior warranty. The 2-Day system adds an epoxy primer and a pigmented polyurea base for a thicker floor and a 10-year / 20-year warranty. Free written quotes across Greater Vancouver. Call (604) 742-9479.

Same flake, same topcoat, same finished look. The difference is in the layers underneath, the time on site, and the warranty term.

What Is in Each System

The Layers Under the Flake

The 1-Day flake system puts a pigmented polyaspartic base coat straight onto the diamond-ground slab, broadcasts decorative flake to full coverage while the base is wet, then seals it with a clear, UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. Polyaspartic cures quickly, which is what makes a one-day install possible without cutting corners on prep.

The 2-Day flake system starts with an epoxy primer that penetrates the ground concrete and locks the system to the slab. A pigmented polyurea base coat goes over the primer, the same full flake broadcast follows, and the floor is sealed with the same polyaspartic topcoat. The extra primer and base coat add build and bond, which is why the 2-Day system carries double the warranty term of the 1-Day system.

The finished look is identical: you choose from the same flake blends, and both floors get the same slip-resistant texture and UV-stable gloss. What you are choosing between is how much floor sits under the flake and how long it is covered.

Choosing

Which Flake System Should You Choose?

Choose the 1-Day system when the floor is indoors, the slab is sound, and you want the garage back quickly at the lower end of the range. It is the same full-broadcast flake finish, sealed with the same UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat, with a 10-year interior warranty behind it.

Choose the 2-Day system when the floor sees sun, weather, or heavy use (a south-facing garage door, a carport, a patio, a shop floor) or when you simply want the longest coverage available. The epoxy primer and pigmented polyurea base give the floor more build and a stronger bond to the slab, and the warranty doubles to 10 years exterior and 20 years interior.

Either way, the process starts the same: diamond grinding, moisture testing following ASTM F1869 guidance, and a written quote before any work begins. We will tell you at the free on-site assessment if your slab points clearly to one system over the other.

Common Questions

1-Day vs 2-Day FAQs

What is the difference between a 1-Day and a 2-Day flake epoxy system?
−
The 1-Day flake system is a polyaspartic base coat, a full broadcast of decorative flake, and a clear polyaspartic topcoat, installed in a single day. The 2-Day flake system adds an epoxy primer and a pigmented polyurea base coat beneath the flake and polyaspartic topcoat, which builds a thicker floor and doubles the warranty term. Both are full-broadcast flake floors.
How much do the 1-Day and 2-Day flake systems cost in Vancouver?
+
Both systems fall within $6 to $12 per square foot installed in Greater Vancouver, with the 2-Day system typically toward the upper end. A single-car garage typically runs $2,000 to $3,500, a two-car garage $2,000 to $4,000, a three-car or oversized garage $3,500 to $7,500, and a basement $3,000 to $7,500. Final cost depends on the condition and prep of your slab, and GST is additional.
What warranty comes with each flake system?
+
The 1-Day flake system carries a 5-year warranty on exterior floors and 10 years on interior floors. The 2-Day flake system carries 10 years exterior and 20 years interior. Both cover adhesion failure, delamination, peeling, yellowing or ambering, and hot-tire pickup, and a full written warranty is provided with every quote.
Is the 2-Day flake system worth the extra cost?
+
For sun-exposed, exterior, or heavily used floors, and for anyone who wants the longest coverage, usually yes. The epoxy primer and pigmented polyurea base add build and bond to the ground slab, which is why the warranty doubles. For an interior garage on a sound slab where speed matters most, the 1-Day system is a strong choice at a lower price point.
How long does each system take to install?
+
The 1-Day system is installed in one day and the 2-Day system over two consecutive days, including diamond grinding and moisture testing. We confirm when you can walk on and park on your specific floor at the free on-site assessment.
Do both systems use the same flake?
+
Yes. Both are full-broadcast flake floors using the same decorative vinyl flake blends, so the finished look is the same. The difference is in the layers underneath the flake, not the flake itself.
Is a one day garage floor as durable as a two-day floor?
+
A one day garage floor uses the same flake and the same polyaspartic topcoat, so it wears the same at the surface. The difference is underneath. The 2-Day system adds an epoxy primer and a polyurea base, which builds a thicker floor and doubles the warranty term. For an interior garage on a sound slab, the 1-Day system is a strong choice.
